But why the name “UnPausable Women”?
Because honestly, menopause is tough. And some days, it can be really hard to push on.

So “UnPausable Women” is not just the name of this newsletter… But a reminder.
A reminder that:
You are worthy.
You are beautiful, in-control and unstoppable.

The Power of Pause: Embracing Mindfulness in Midlife
It’s the time of year when life is in full swing. Plans with family and friends are keeping you busy. Changes in the season might require a shift in routine. Now, more than ever, it’s critical that you prioritize your well-being.
One way to achieve a profound sense of wellness is through self-care.
We’re not talking about throwing on a facemask and drawing a bubble bath (don’t get us wrong, we love those things). We have to go beyond those feel-good practices. True self-care will help you consistently maintain positive feelings in your mind, body, and spirit.
Let’s explore a few simple things you can implement that will move you from meh to amazing right now.
Understanding the essence of "self-care" can cause confusion in the age of wellness trends and indulgence.
Is it the extra brownie or turning off Netflix for an early night? The truth lies in what lights you up. What makes you feel your best physically, mentally, and emotionally? Restoring your whole self comes through tailored activities fostering tranquility and renewal.
Self-care isn't a universal formula; it's a bespoke experience unique to you.
In this article by Realsimple.com, mental health experts and coaches demystify the dos and don'ts of crafting a self-care routine exclusively for your needs. Here are some highlights:
-
Focus on activities that fill you up
Self-care isn't about following trends like taking elaborate baths if that doesn't float your boat. Dr. Naomi Torres-Mackie suggests choosing activities that leave you feeling nourished and energized. Imagine how you'll feel after an activity—if it's a mood booster, go for it; if not, skip it! -
Avoid overindulgence
Dr. Vanessa Kennedy warns against using self-care as an excuse for overspending or excessive drinking. It's not about instant gratification but creating mental space to handle life's stresses better. -
See self-care as essential, not indulgent
Despite busy schedules, self-care is vital, not selfish. Torres-Mackie emphasizes its role as a survival skill. Reframe it in your mind: taking care of yourself makes you better at caring for others. -
Don't make self-care a grand production
You don't need a celebrity's budget for meaningful self-care. Dr. Torres-Mackie advises simple, free activities like listening to favorite music or enjoying preferred foods. Ellen Yin suggests small breaks during the day for intentional pauses, whether it's a brief walk or lunch away from your desk. -

Listen to your mind and body
Dr. Kennedy highlights the mind-body connection. Pay attention to the physical and emotional signals your body sends. Check your sleep, diet, cravings, body aches, and other signs to tailor your self-care routine based on what your body truly needs.
Remember, self-care is not selfish.
You deserve to fill your life with what makes you feel your best. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
