Can You Recommend Some Medications For Anxiety Attacks?

Claire Asks...

"Anxiety is the worst symptom I am experiencing at the moment, creating a vicious circle with some digestive problems. I have been given some beta blockers for when things get bad, but was wondering whether any other medication is helping people? I usually get my anxiety attacks in the evening and during the night, so it’s really disrupting my life at the moment."

I am sorry to learn of your anxiety, Claire, but there is help out there for you besides beta blockers. Anxiety is a very prevalent medical condition so you are not alone. Medication such as buspirone which is non-addicting and anti depressants such as bupropion can help as well.

Daily exercise, yoga, and talk therapy can be incredibly helpful.

In the evenings, you can try a short acting anti-anxiety medication such as Xanax or Ativan. These can be addicting so you need to discuss this with your doctor.

Natural supplements such as CBD (from hemp) are becoming quite acceptable to treat anxiety because the CBD that comes from Hemp contains very little THC, the chemical that gets you high. CBD oil and capsules are available on the internet and many retail outlets. L-theonine can be useful at night for anxiety.

With regard to digestive issues, sometimes it is directly due to anxiety or it can be for other reasons. Once your anxiety is under control, if you are still having digestive issues, it would be best to see a doctor to figure out what course of action would be most beneficial.
